The organisation’s legacy Citrix VDI environment had become expensive to operate, with ageing infrastructure and significant licensing overhead. With a hardware refresh on the horizon, the business undertook a strategic review of its virtual desktop platform. The existing experience was inconsistent for users, with slow logon times and application compatibility issues impacting both factory and office personas, eroding confidence and increasing helpdesk load.
Internal IT carried a significant operational burden maintaining the Citrix farm, hypervisors, and supporting infrastructure, and specialist Citrix skills were difficult and expensive to maintain in-house. The platform also had limited integration with the Microsoft 365 estate, blocking modern productivity and Conditional Access scenarios and leaving virtual desktop sessions outside the modern identity and compliance perimeter.
