Costa Group is Australia’s leading grower, packer, and marketer of fresh fruit and vegetables, with operations across Australia, China, Morocco, and the United States. With a vast and geographically dispersed network of farms, the business relies heavily on secure, reliable, and scalable connectivity to keep operations running smoothly. As the company continued to expand globally, it became clear that their existing network infrastructure needed to evolve to support both productivity and security.

Challenges

Costa Group’s farming operations are spread across remote locations where reliable network access is difficult to maintain. The company frequently experienced connectivity outages due to carrier failures and a lack of redundancy, which directly impacted employee productivity and day-to-day operations. Troubleshooting was another major hurdle, as limited network visibility made diagnosing issues slow and inefficient for their IT team. Costa Group needed a modernised solution that could move them away from legacy MPLS networks and VPNs, while also delivering improved resilience, easier management, and robust security for their distributed workforce.

Solution

Oreta worked with Costa Group to deliver a comprehensive network transformation, centered on Palo Alto Networks’ Prisma SASE platform. For connectivity, SD-WAN appliances with integrated 5G were deployed wherever coverage was available, and Starlink satellite solutions were rolled out at 30 remote sites without 5G access. This combination ensured rapid deployment of new locations—measured in days rather than months—while enabling automatic failovers to maintain continuous operations.

On the security side, Costa Group adopted a unified network security platform, beginning with Palo Alto Networks Next-Generation Firewalls and evolving into Prisma SASE. This brought together SD-WAN, Prisma Access security, and Autonomous Digital Experience Management (ADEM) into a single solution, providing real-time visibility, improved security, and proactive user support across all 50+ sites.
