Constructing a Smarter ICT Future: Oreta’s Managed Services Journey with Winslow

Winslow Constructors is a large Australian construction and civil engineering company delivering major infrastructure projects across Australia. Their teams rely on business-critical applications, extensive historical data, and a highly available ICT environment to support construction, engineering, and corporate operations across multiple sites.

Challenges

Winslow’s ICT environment has become complex, costly, and increasingly misaligned with its cloud first and SaaS strategy.

Key challenges included an ageing Cisco HyperFlex private cloud platform approaching end of life, rising infrastructure and storage costs driven by long term data retention, and heavy reliance on Citrix virtual desktops with escalating licensing costs. Security tooling was fragmented, limiting visibility and automation, while ERP and other business critical applications needed to be modernised without risking stability or uptime.

All of this was compounded by the need to simplify operations while supporting a growing, geographically distributed workforce.

Solution

For more than five years, Oreta has partnered with Winslow to deliver managed cloud, network, SOC, and service desk services, providing stability today while enabling a clear path to a cloud first future.

Oreta designed and operated an integrated managed services model across cloud, network, security operations, and end user support. This included optimising and operating the Cisco HyperFlex platform to deliver strong ROI and long-term stability, while planning its transition due to end of life.

Oreta worked closely with Winslow through cloud and SaaS strategy workshops to define the future state platform. Workloads and data were progressively migrated towards cloud based and SaaS services, reducing reliance on premises infrastructure and Citrix.

A modern storage strategy was introduced, moving archival data from Azure to Wasabi to significantly lower fixed storage costs. Security tooling was consolidated into the Microsoft ecosystem, improving threat detection, automation, and response through Microsoft Sentinel and endpoint protection.

Oreta also delivered 24×7 managed network services across SD WAN, firewalls, switching, and wireless, alongside a high performing service desk focused on proactive device management, patching, and user experience. Regular security awareness initiatives drove measurable improvements in phishing resilience across the business.

Outcome

With Oreta’s ongoing managed services and strategic guidance, Winslow achieved:
